Historic Places
Sri Lanka’s history dates back to over 2,500 years and therefore the island nation offers plenty of attractions of historic significance to visit whether it’s naturally-created locations or man-made temples and monuments. Some of the most popular historical locations include the ancient cities of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa, Sigiriya rock fortress and its ruins, Kandy, where the Temple of the Tooth is located and the Golden Temple and caves of Dambulla. Given the island’s long Buddhist history, most of the historical locations revolve around this ancient religion. However, historical places of other religions can also be found in this multi-religious island nation. These historic sites are essential additions to any Sri Lankan tour package.
